PT United Tractors Tbk (UNTR) has launched Bio Diesel Fuel Pilot Project in Indonesia.

PT United Tractors Tbk (UNTR) has launched Bio Diesel Fuel Pilot Project in Indonesia.

This project is a pilot project is deemed feasible, but to be in commercial operation is still needed further study. The ultimate goal of this project is to create environmentally friendly mining operations at the mining site of PT Adaro Indonesia (AI), a subsidiary which is 100% owned by the company.

The launching of the mining area located in Adaro was attended by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Darwin Saleh, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Indonesia, Yoshinori Katori, the Governor of South Kalimantan, Director General of Mineral and Coal, Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs and Environmental Pollution Control, the Regional Leadership, and the Board of Directors and Commissioners Adaro, Komatsu, and UT.

Adaro's president director, Garibaldi Thohir, said the project demonstrates the commitment Adaro to become a responsible partner, the safety and environmental sustainability and support the community and state by creating an environmentally friendly mining operations as well as sustainable in the Adaro mine site.

"In March this year, the BDF plant (production capacity: 1.2 tons / day) as well as laboratory analysis facilities to ensure the quality of the BDF in Adaro coal mine has been completed, while the BDF production standards of the European Standard (EN 14214) of Jatropha * 2 (plant spacing) has begun. After making sure the engine performance by using a purified BDF done bench tests, the Project team began to test the operation of the dump truck Komatsu HD785 type (carrying capacity: 90 tons) that operated at the mine site. "

The project includes the production of BDF from Jatropha and other plants in the Adaro mine in Kalimantan, Indonesia, and the use of BDF as fuel to operate the dump truck Komatsu HD785 type in Adaro's mining site.

AI plans to outsource the Jatropha and other plants from locations outside the site of mining operations, building a supply chain that can produce BDF and used on an ongoing basis so as to create areas that are more environmentally friendly operations. UT, as the Komatsu distributor in Indonesia, will provide support in the form of product support for Dump Truck Komatsu fueled BDF.

The three companies are planning to continue this project to a further stage to operate 100 units of dump trucks in 2012 and subsequent years. When 20% of diesel fuel used today is replaced with the BDF to operate 100 units of dump trucks, then about 8,000 tons of BDF will be used each year, and contribute to a decrease of approximately 20,000 tons of CO2 emissions, equivalent to 10% of CO2 emissions generated by factories in Japan's Komatsu.
